Live From Hummingbird Towers… Dean Owens Goes Global Fri 27 Mar 2020 9-10pm (GMT) (4pm CDT, 2pm PDT) Online at Channel 7A Facebook page PAY WHAT YOU CAN (suggested donation £5)
Today, At Home with The House of Songs we feature Scotland’s Dean Owens. Dean is an award winning singer songwriter who was a participant in our most recent Songwriter Summit, he proved to be a great collaborator, and was on our journey from Arkansas, to New Orleans, and London with The House of Songs. Since returning home, he was hit hard when Covid19 put the kybosh on 3 months of live tour dates to promote his awesome new release, The Man From Leith (The Best of Dean Owens) – released on 20 Mar 2020, on Eel Pie Records.
However, with the help of the audio/visual talents of Sandy McGhie at Channel 7A, he will perform a special concert, live and direct to your computer screen. It will be broadcast from the Channel 7a Facebook page.
He had also planned on coming to the US in April to mix the album he recently recorded with Calexico, that of course is not possible in the face of travel restrictions. Besides being a talented writer and performer, Dean is one of the nicest human beings on the planet. If you’re looking for a way to help out artists, tune in to his live stream concert (it’s a “pay what you can” show) and buy his brand new album.
As always, we encourage you to please support Dean, and all of our fellow musicians in this uncertain time by making donations to artists or purchasing music and/or merchandise at the links below.

A note from Dean: All we ask is that you PAY WHAT YOU CAN* (suggested donation: £5 (or equivalent in your own currency)).
You can pay in advance, or pay on the night. Or after! INSTRUCTIONS 1. SELECT the no of tickets you want. CLICK “add to basket” 2. CLICK EDIT under the price if you want to pay a different rate 3. Type free in the coupon code box and click “apply coupon” (This will delete the shipping charge) 4. Proceed to Checkout and finish transaction in the usual way
Times are hard for everyone just now, not least for full time, independent musicians like Dean. We hope you will think this small payment is worth it in exchange for some live music to help make the world feel a bit better again, even if only for an hour.
Dean Owens gigs are always special, with lots of blethers (chat), and stories about the background to the songs as well as great music. Live From Hummingbird Towers will recreate that great vibe, with Dean and his acoustic guitar, harmonica… and likely some speciality whistling!
This is an experiment. If it works, and you like it, we may very well do more. Let us know if this format works for you.
*NOTE: “Pay What You Can” means exactly that – if you really can’t afford anything, then you are still very welcome to “attend”, but please do what you can to spread the word (And of course if you have a spare couple of grand, that’d be very welcome too!!).
These are tough, scary times, and we want to bring people together through an international music event. There’s nothing like a bunch of miserable songs, sung by the inimitable Dean Owens (Scotland’s maestro of misery!) to cheer you up and make you feel better, in the (virtual) company of like minded people!
